Do I qualify and what do I do now?
There are very strict criteria for weight loss
surgery. First off, you must have a BMI (Body Mass
Index) above 40, or a BMI above 35 with a comorbidity
which can be diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol,
reflux, arthritis, or sleep apnea. To find out your
BMI, click here.

If you meet this criteria then we suggest you check
with your insurance company to be sure there is no
exclusion for weight loss surgery in your policy. If
there is an exclusion there is no recourse except to
pay cash. We can help you with financing a cash
payment.
If your insurance does cover or you want to pay cash
then call our office to set up an appointment. Our
office will set up a personal appointment with Dr
Garth or Dr. Robert. They will also tell you how to register for the seminar which we would like you to go to prior to coming to your office visit. During the seminar you will find out all the details about the
surgeries that we offer.

Before coming to the office visit please compile a
list of diets you have done before and PLEASE obtain a letter from your primary care doctor. This letter should document that you have been overweight and hopefully that your primary care doctor has counseled you about weight. At the least it should state that you are overweight and this is affecting your health.
If you have never done a physician supervised diet
your insurance may deny you, but don't worry, we can start you on a diet and follow you until your
insurance improves you for surgery.
After you come to our office we will send you to our
weight loss clinic at The Methodist Hospital where you will see our psychologist and our dietician. After
this we will try and get you approved for surgery as
fast as possible.
We have insurance experts at our office to help you
along the way.
